We find our intrepid band of adventurers literally and figuratively adrift after burning down the blue pirate capital, and losing the incendiary Fire weapons to the red pirate band. Worse, with red suborned by the demon queen, it looked as if they were planning to use the Fire in the same way we had planned: to arrange a meeting with the leaders of the other bands and wipe out their leadership to claim the overall throne.
With blue no longer a powerful enough force to hope to ride to victory over the other four pirate bands, the party looked for a new solution. Travelling to Freehold, the (vacant) home of the pirate king, they developed a clever plan: the Stormer priest would magically disguise himself as a pirate, and visit the leader of the purple pirate band. He would attempt to gain favor with the purple band by warning him about the meeting. Once the reds wipe out the other leaders, purple would be in a strong position, and since we had saved their leader, they would be favorable towards us, and the overall alliance to stop the demon queen. A great idea, in theory.
In actual practice, the purple lord took the information, told the party to go screw, and said, “maybe if you go retrieve the Fire and bring it to me, I’ll help.” (Death warrant: signed.) After locating the Fire underneath the meeting hall where the leaders were set to meet, the party was forced to retreat. A second foray led to success! 8 of the Fire bombs were retrieved! (2 were set off under the green hall, leading to the death of the green leader, many of his troops, and a lot of their ships…)
With the Fire rescued, bombings of the black and purple palaces mopped up those leaders and opened up the option of presenting Copernicus, still nominally a blue captain, as clan leader, and pressing his claim to be king. Only red stood in the way, but a blue ship arrived, bringing reinforcements. The fight was pressed, and won, and Copernicus was named king of the pirates!
